Nilek County in Xinjiang is an important base for cold-water fish farming in China. Yesterday, we visited Xinjiang Tianyun Organic Agriculture Co., Ltd., which was established in February 2014. The company uses glacier meltwater from the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang and innovatively applies an eco-friendly large-area net-pen aquaculture model to farm high-quality salmon (triploid rainbow trout). It has a farming water area of 176,196 mu and an annual production capacity of 12,000 tons.

 

The company has built a complete digital fishery industry chain integrating R&D, seedling breeding, smart aquaculture, deep processing, brand building, and related extensions. It is a national key leading enterprise in agricultural industrialization, a high-tech enterprise, a national demonstration base for agricultural and rural informatization, and a national aquatic seed industry leading enterprise. It has been honored as a practice and innovation base for the concept that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets,” along with various other awards and recognitions.

 

The Glacier Retreat Prevention project of Rotary International District 3450 aims to conserve water resources by using Tianshan glacial water for fish farming, promoting a green economy, transforming Xinjiang herders into fishers, and contributing to environmental protection, the planet, and sustainable development.
